NHN-board

The NHN is governed by an external board in which the participating universities are represented. The chairman of the board is assigned by The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). The board convenes at least once annually and sees to it that the mission and the tasks of the NHN are carried out. Leiden University is the ‘penvoerder’.

Currently the NHN board consists of:

Prof.dr. S.B. Menken, chair (University of Amsterdam)
Prof.dr. S.M. Verduyn Lunel (Leiden University)
Dr.ir. A.F. Groen (Wageningen University and Research Centre)

Dr. J.B. Mols acts as secretary of the board.

NHN Management Team

Daily governance of the NHN is vested in the Director, who is responsible for carrying out all the decisions of the board and for drafting of the research program and annual budgets. The Director is supported in his decision making by the NHN Management Team, composed of the heads of the local branches of the NHN.

Presently the NHN Management Team consists of:

Prof.dr. E.F. Smets, Director and chair
Prof.dr. M.S.M. Sosef (Wageningen)
Dr. M.C. Roos (Leiden)

Dr. J.B. Mols acts as secretary.

Science and Education committee

For research and teaching the NHN has a main advisory body in the form of the Science and Education Committee. This committee examines and suggests improvements for research projects and grant proposals, and discusses the teaching programs and courses at and above the MSc level. The committee consists of representatives of the different branches, and research and education disciplines.

The current composition is:
Prof.dr. M.S.M. Sosef, chair (Wageningen)
Prof.dr. E.F. Smets (Director)
Dr. L.W. Chatrou (Wageningen)
Dr. F.T. Bakker (Wageningen)
Ir. R. van Velzen (Wageningen)
Dr. T.R. van Andel (Leiden)
Dr. B. Gravendeel (Leiden)
Dhr. L.P.M. Willemse (Leiden)
Dr. M.C. Roos (Leiden)
Dr. M.E. Noordeloos (Leiden)

Research Task Forces

In order to stimulate collaboration and synergy between the branches of the NHN, several Task Forces have been established on main cross cutting themes in our common research program. These taskforces advise the Science and Education Committee, and have to foster a NHN academic environment at the cutting edge of their respective fields.

The respective Task Forces are (between brackets the current Task Force leaders):
Taxonomy (Dr. J.J. Vermeulen)
•  Molecular Systematics, Phylogeny and Biogeography (Dr. L.W. Chatrou)
Biodiversity Assessment (Dr. Ir. J. Wieringa)
Education (Dr. M.C. Roos)
