The flora contains an overview of all Cucurbitaceae, wild and cultivated, for the Malesian area (Indonesia, East Timor, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, the Philippines and Papua New Guinea). In total 152 taxa are treated, most of them illustrated.

- During the official opening of the Orchiade in the Leiden Botanic Garden on april 1st, part 6 in the CD-ROM series Flora Malesiana. Orchids of New Guinea, Genus Bulbophyllum will be published and presented to Sara Oldfield, Secretary General of Botanic Gardens Conservation International and a few invitees. This is the last part of a series in which all of the c. 3000 known orchid species of New Guinea have been treated in an interactive digital information system. This is the second substantial publication within the framework of the recently founded NCB Naturalis and in fact the first electronic one.

Focus on Nature is a biennial exhibition of scientific, natural and cultural history, which encourages a diverse population to have access to the cultural and scientific accomplishments that appear in Focus on Nature.

The Flora Malesiana Symposium is an important forum for the exchange of taxonomic and systematic ideas and new research findings on the flora of the Malesian region. Today, it has become a large international gathering of botanists and post-graduate students who study the diversity, ecology, biogeography, evolution and conservation of plants from the region, including Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, East Timor and Papua New Guinea, as well as bordering countries. The 8th International Flora Malesiana Symposium will be held from 23-27 august 2010 at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
